We are recruiting for a Protection & Controls Engineer to join a growing EPC business, supporting the design and delivery of protection, control, and SCADA systems for high-voltage substation and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects across the UK.


You'll work within a multi-disciplinary engineering team, designing and integrating protection and control solutions from concept through to commissioning on major renewable energy and grid infrastructure projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing protection and control systems for HV substations (11–400kV) and BESS grid connection projects
  • Producing and reviewing protection schematics, relay settings, wiring diagrams, SLDs, and SCADA documentation
  • Supporting FAT/SAT, commissioning activities, and collaborating with engineering, procurement, and construction teams
  • Liaising with DNOs, National Grid, and other stakeholders to ensure designs meet industry standards and grid compliance requirements


Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering with experience delivering protection and control designs for HV substations and/or BESS projects
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection schemes, relay configuration software, and SCADA/RTU systems
  • Knowledge of National Grid, DNO, ENA standards, and communication protocols such as IEC 61850
  • Experience working within an EPC environment; Chartered Engineer status or experience with BESS systems is advantageous
